Bird-safe skyways for Minneapolis
Survey data around the Twin Cities indicate that the many of bird window collision mortalities are caused by skyways. For Minneapolis, a city containing 8 miles of skyways, this is particularly relevant. To address this problem with a solution, Minneapolis City Councilmembers Cam Gordon and Linnea Palmisano have introduced an amendment to the Minneapolis skyway ordinance requiring bird-friendly design on all new skyways. The language for the amendment would be based on that of other leading environmentally conscious cities and would present developers with a variety of aesthetically pleasing and economically feasible options.
